A part of the Sunshine Project, the "AYAC Safety Education for Children" volunteer project combines the efforts of AYAC volunteers, teachers, parents, and the community at large to promote self-protection and personal safety information to migrant school-children through ATL and BTL channels such as self-defense camps. Beginning from March, the "AYAC Safety Education for Children" project will kick off in stages in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Shenyang, Nanjing, and Shenzhen. The main topics include common child safety issues such as traffic safety, household storm-proofing, thunder-proofing, fire and water hazards, and burn treatments

Acclaimed policewoman and Beijing's decorated officer Gao Yanyan worked with children on proper ways to report crimes and call police hotline 110. The children were then split into four groups, where they learned about traffic safety through interactive instructions and simulations, better equipping them for practical applications of such knowledge in real life.

Creating a professional volunteer squad

ACF volunteers imparted traffic safety skills to children through interactive simulations

"By bringing in young volunteers into children safety education, we hope that more awareness will be paid to children self-protection, and that our efforts will ring the bells of children self-protection," said ACF Deputy Director-General Jack Kuang. "ACF volunteers have always prided themselves in providing professional volunteer services. We hope that this project will go a long way in building a professional volunteer squad in the area of children self-protection."

Volunteers of the "AYAC Safety Education for Children" project all received two and a half days of professional training prior to the event. ACF retained the services of international experts in children safety and traffic safety, and experts from the Beijing 120 Emergency Center to hold lectures for volunteers. Volunteers also visited the traffic safety center and Beijing 120 Emergency Center for lessons and paramedic procedure simulations, giving them a personal experience of the safety techniques and knowledge that they would, in turn, pass on to the children.
