On Aug 31, the Spring Sprout Project of Amway Charity Foundation (ACF) was granted the Award of “Annual Model CSR Project” at the fourth annual CSR meeting hosted by Southern Weekly,
an influential newspaper in China. The project was
applauded for its pioneering and demonstrative effect
and its concrete results. This was the second time that
the project earned the honor.

The Spring Sprout Project has been implemented for more than one year. It has created an innovative model that pools the charitable efforts of government agencies, NGOs and individuals, established an open and replicable platform for cooperation, and set an example for other charitable projects. In 2012, the project’s management system, in particular the volunteer supervision system and the kitchen administration committee, has been upgraded, making further contributions to the nutrition improvement for boarding left-behind children in poverty-stricken areas in Central and Western China. In April 2012, the Spring Sprout Project won the seventh China Charity Award, the top honor in philanthropy from Chinese government. The project was named the Most Influential Charity Project in the country.
ACF Director-General Frances Yu said at the meeting, “In this September, the 700th Spring Sprout kitchen was completed in the Third Experimental Primary School of Shaanxian County, Sanmenxia City of Henan Province. So far, the Spring Sprout Project has benefited 350,000 left-behind children in 42 counties and 25 cities in eight provinces or autonomous regions. Nevertheless, this is only a small part of the 26 million rural boarding students in China. Migrant children learn more about cities
through “Litter Painters’ Dream”
On September 9, the “Sunshine Project - Little Painters’ Dream” initiative
was held in Heping East School in Hefei City of Anhui Pro vince. So far, the
initiative has covered 49 cities in 23 provinces across the country. It features four types of activities including field visits, story sharing, painting and exhibition of excellent works. With help from volunteers, the “little painters” get to see and feel the cities by themselves, learn the cities better and be able to live more happily and confidently in their cities.

Amway Charity Foundation Participated
in the Ningxia Charity Exposition
From Aug 26-28, ACF participated in the 2012 Good Valley of Yellow River Charity Expo in Ningxia at the special invitation of the Expo Committee. The ACF Hall, extending 144 square meters area, was one of the largest among all exhibition halls at the Expo. The ACF exhibition mainly portrayed its Spring Sprout Project, Rainbow Project and the contributions by Amway volunteers. The elegant and concise layout, as well as the explicit information on the Foundation management mechanism, further reinforced ACF’s image as a responsible and professional charity organization. Mr. Li Liguo, Minister of Civil Affairs commented that "ACF has done a very good job" after visiting the ACF Hall and being briefed with the Foundation’s work.Click here to learn more >
Migrant Children Gather at “2012 Sunshine Summer Camp”
During August 20-23, 74 children, including Sunshine Project’s beneficiaries from schools for migrant children and their buddies from top urban schools, participated in the “2012 Sunshine Summer Camp” in Shanghai in the company of their teachers. The camp was jointly organized by the National Young Pioneer Committee and ACF. In the summer camp, children took part in colorful activities such as role playing games and scientific explorations, which have not only improved their communication skills but also helped them better integrate into the city.

Summit Forum on Left-behind Children
On August 3, to mark the one-year anniversary of Spring Sprout Project, Wang Guangtao, Director of the Environment and Resource Protection Committee of the National People’s Congress, Liu Xiaolian, Deputy Executive Director of China National Committee for the Care of Children (CNCCC), and Officials from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Baise City, as well as ACF’s representatives revisited five schools in Tiandong County, Baise City of Guangxi. Longqiong Tongxin Primary School and Bubing Primary School are among the schools. ACF has sponsored 39 Spring Sprout kitchens in the area, which have greatly improved the nutrition of left-behind children in the county.
On the same day, a summit forum on caring for left-behind children was held. Experts had in-depth discussion on providing more and better care to left-behind children and provided theoretical basis for the implementation of the Spring Sprout Project.Click here to learn more >
Third Session of First meeting of Amway Charity Foundation Board of Trustees Held in Shanghai
On Jun 18, the third session of the inaugural meeting of the Amway Charity Foundation (ACF) Board of Trustees was held in Shanghai. Present at the meeting were ACF Chairwoman Eva Cheng, Executive Chairman Audie Wong, Chairmen Gan Chee Eng, Martin Liou, Patrick Chang, Vincent Hwang, Steve Chan, Director-General Frances Yu, other Board members including Angela Keung, Steven Cheng, Liza Cheang, Annie Peng, Rachel Luo, and Jack Kuang, and Audit Committee members Patrick Hau, Scott Balford and Peng Jianmei. The members voted to approve that Liu Zhongxiang, Deputy Director of the Civil Organizations Administration, Ministry of Civil Affairs and Elaine Liao of ACF to join in the board as new members. "Sunshine Project: Painters of Dreams"
event kicked off nationwide
Beginning in June of 2012, 1600 migrant children along with 2000 volunteers in 53 provinces took part in the "Sunshine Project – Uncover the City" event. The event was divided into two parts – city simulation and city on-ground. The education and practical experiencing of the urban settings greatly helped migrant children assimilate into city life, promoted their healthy growth along the way.
